Her coat is silver grey,
I found her in the meadow,
Not very far away,
My little silver pussy,
Will never be a cat,
'Cause she's a pussy-willow,
Now what do you think of that' - trad. rhyme.
Pussy willow fronds were often collected when families 'went a-palming' to collect plants suitable to stand in for palm fronds for Palm Sunday.

Lovely post, but I must confess that it set off a rare, epic blubfest. There are two things associated with my dad that are still guaranteed to rip my heart out and stomp all over it - the tune for Danny Boy, with or without lyrics, and this little rhyme. And you posted it during Father's Day week, no less!
