Midland Hotel, Morecambe

The art deco Midland Hotel opened in 1933 on the site of the previous Midland Hotel, the new building was designed by Oliver Hill and cost £32,000 to construct. The glorious heyday of the hotel, when it played host to famous music hall stars and counted Royalty amongst its guests, lasted only until the outbreak of the 2nd World War, when it was requisitioned for use as an RAF base.

After the war the hotel passed through a succession of owners, being gradually more run down and delapidated, in 2003 the hotel was purchased by a venture group and following extensive refurbishment opened again for business in 2008.

  1. How could you do so many things in Morecambe without learning how to spell it right? :-)

  2. Oh good grief, I havn't done a great job at spelling 'succession' either, or 'refurbishment', dreadful effort, bottom of the class.
