5 Hot Tracks You Should Hear

1) The Wanting Comes In Waves / Repaid - The Decemberists (from The Hazards Of Love) I never thought I would be able to use phrases like "big, muscular riffs" when talking about the Portland alt-folk band, but the new album is fantastic, albeit a fanbase divider.

2) Travelling In Time - Katriona Gilmore & Jamie Roberts (from Shadows & Half Light), beautiful folk tale.

3) Ida Called You Woody, Joe - The Gaslight Anthem (from Sink Or Swim), they're being compared, lyrically at least, to early political Clash.

4) Oblivion - Mastodon (from Crack The Skye), Mastodon have slowed down, fractionally, and sing rather than grunt on the new album, it's a winning combination from the new metal stars.

5) Demon Eyes - The Answer (From Everyday Demons), so Led Zeppelin won't ever play together again, and Deep Purple are over the hill and far away, but who cares if Irish classic rockers The Answer can produce music as good as this.
